Stem cells may help the children with arthropathy

Indian researchers are planning to use stem cells for the treatment of Perthes disease. This disease is a very common. It is associated with a disturbance of blood supply to the femoral head. The new method of treatment will save children from disability, says The Times of India.

Scientists have already used stem cells for the treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral bone in adults. The treatment was successful, so the scientists decided to find out whether this method helps children with Perthes' disease. According to the researchers, these diseases are similar. Stem cells are obtained from the patient's bone marrow of the iliac bone of the pelvis.

Then doctors obtain a concentrate and drill a hole in the patient's diseased bone. Then the concentrate is administered to humans and suture. The procedure lasts about an hour. Some time ago, patients were treated from arthritis by removing part of the bone. However, such operation has a lot of minuses. Experts are sure that the new method is much better.
