Scientists have found a "switch" responsible for a tumor growth

Scientists from the Karolinsky Institute have carried out a study in mice. They have revealed a "genetic switch" that regulates the growth of cancer cells. When it’s "off" the development of cancer in rodents was prevented. Normal cells were not damaged, as their growth is controlled by another "switch", The Hindustan Times reports.

The experts have studied the genome region associated with prostate, breast, colon, urinary bladder, thyroid gland cancer, as well as chronic lymphocytic leukemia and myeloma. Changes in this region cause a large number of deaths from cancer than known "cancer mutations."

The scientists have removed the "switch" from the genome of mice. This provided protection against breast cancer and bowel cancer in the animals. After such performance, the rodents grew and

developed normally. The scientists hope that their findings will help in the development of new cancer drugs.
