Osteoporosis - From Idea to Action. Zoleum.
On 22nd of September 2020 the company "Ananta Medicare" in association with "Clinic of modern rheumatology" held the first webinar on the topic of osteoporosis. The lecture "Osteoporosis - from idea to action" was conducted by prof. Egudina Elizaveta Davydovna.
In favor of the relevance of the chosen topic, not only the following figures speak, so by 2050, due to an increase in the world's population and life expectancy, the number of osteoporotic fractures will be more than 6 million. According to WHO, every year about 9 million fractures in the world are due to osteoporosis and every 3 seconds in the world there is one fracture caused by osteoporosis. However, more than 300 doctors have joined this webinar.
During 2 hour lecture prof. Egudina elaborated on issues such as classification, epidemiology of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures, risk factors, screening and diagnosis of osteoporosis, and methods of treatment and prevention as well. The pathogenetic methods of treating osteoporosis currently include the appointment of bisphosphonates, and the first line among bisphosphonates is zoledronic acid. Zoledronic acid at a dose of 5 mg once a year is recommended for both women with postmenopausal osteoporosis and men for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, and patients with glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis as well.
