New remedy will relieve the pain and itching
Scientists from Scripps’s Research Institute have designed a new connection - Triazole 1.1. With its help the researchers have managed to suppress the pain and itching of the treated animals. Triazole 1.1 is an agonist of kappa-opioid receptors of the nervous system. They regulate the process of release of the dopamine neurotransmitter, Medical Xpress reported.
According to the scientists, there was proved that the substances that are targets for kappa opioid receptors can relieve pain and itching. In contrast to other remedies targeted at other opioid receptors, these medications do not increase the risk of addiction and overdose. However, they can decrease dopamine levels that may cause dysphoria and sedation.
The scientists say the new remedy has no such side effects. The key is that it makes kappa opioid receptors transmit the signals not through protein β-arrestin2, but via G-proteins. Due to this fact this remedy relives the pain and itching, without reducing the level of dopamine.
