Paroxetine may have anti-cancer effects
Paroxetine is an antidepressant in the serotonin reuptake inhibitor class. In the course of the study, a group of Swedish scientists received information that paroxetin significantly reduces the number of IGF1R receptors in malignant cells and inhibits tumor growth. So far, the scientists have been able to demonstrate anti-cancer effects in experiments on mice and cell lines.
There is no data on how these results can be extrapolated to humans, but this study gives hope for repurposing conventional drugs for cancer.
