Psoriasis increases the risk of untimely death
According to The Daily Mail, people suffering from severe psoriasis die more often than those who have no psoriasis. This was established by scientists of the University of Pennsylvania. The scientists have analyzed the data of 8760 volunteers with psoriasis and 87600 participants without psoriasis.
Volunteers suffering from psoriasis were divided into two groups (according to the disease severity). Then the researchers have calculated the number of deaths among the participants in about 4 years. The scientists have found that people with severe psoriasis are almost twice as often to die prematurely as those without psoriasis.
Experts do not know why psoriasis increases the risk of untimely death. However, previous studies have shown that psoriasis is associated with cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and certain cancers.
