The new test will significantly simplify the diagnosis of cancer
A study conducted by scientists from the University of Exeter has shown that high blood platelet concentration is a cancer marker. Experts say that medics should check all patients whose platelet level has suddenly increased. Timely diagnosis can save the lives of many people, Zee News reports.
The scientists have analyzed the data of 40,000 people. The scientists have found that within a year a cancer was detected in 6% of women and more than 11% of men over 40 years of age with thrombocytosis (high blood platelets concentration). 18% of men and 10% of women who had a platelet increase for the second time in 6 months were also diagnosed.
In the general population, about 1% of people are affected by a cancer within a year. Experts emphasize that early diagnosis plays an important role in cancer. The forecast depends on the time of diagnosis. If people with thrombocytosis are checked for cancer, a lot of them will earlier know their diagnosis.
